Lady Booby embodies everything that Joseph and Fanny lack: she's befuddled and unaware of her own motives, and she's so fragile in her sentiments for others that she despises individuals who are experiencing strong emotions.
Her obstinate legal maneuvers in Book IV have unintended and unwelcome repercussions for her.
The reasoning and desire of the title character, Lady Booby, clash throughout the book; she is unquestionably the source of doubt in Fielding's comic narrative.
His egotism undermines the love that is the foundation of this resolve, and his concern for his reputation keeps him from participating in the joyful conclusion.
Because of his mental difficulties, he has a tough time putting an end to his characters' storylines. Nonetheless, the depth and vibrancy shown in her suffering prevent us from seeing her as a nasty end, rather than as more than a participant in Fielding's cat and mouse game with the others.
