 What is Research?

Research, as defined, is characterized as a comprehensive study of a particular topic or difficulty using scientific methods. "Research is a systematic study of events to characterize, explain, predict and control them," according to the American sociologist, Earl Robert Babbie. It is based on inductive as well as deductive thinking."

Inductive research strategies investigate phenomena while deductive research methods check the phenomenon. In qualitative research, inductive methods are more prevalent than deductive, and quantitative analyses are more common than qualitative analyses.

Research is conducted with the following goals in mind:

  • Identify future and current consumers.
  • Identify your existing clients.
  • Set achievable targets.
  • Create lucrative market strategies.
  • Take on the corporate world's problems
  • Create a plan to grow your business.
  • Identify prospective new enterprises.

What are the Qualities/Characteristics of research?

Good research uses a systematic approach to guarantee that accurate data is collected. Researchers must adhere to ethical standards and a code of conduct while making observations or drawing findings.

  • The analysis uses inductive and deductive methods, based on logical thinking, to achieve its findings.
  • Facts and information are collected in real-time from genuine observations in natural settings.
  • All collected data are thoroughly examined to verify that there are no anomalies associated with it.
  • It opens the door for new questions to arise. Existing data helps to create fresh research opportunities.
  • It is analytical in character and uses all available information to prevent any final uncertainty.

The correctness of the findings is one of the most essential aspects of the study. All information must be up-to-date and accurate. Data gathering may take place in a controlled environment in the case of laboratories. The accuracy of an experiment is assessed by the instruments used, equipment or tools calibrations, and the final result of the experiment.

So, what is the aim of research in the first place?

There are three main goals to strive for:

Exploratory: It investigations are performed in order to explore a collection of questions in more detail, as the name suggests. It is conceivable that the answers and analytics may fail to offer a remedy to the apparent problem in the future. To deal with new problem areas that have not previously been examined, it is necessary to do research. This basic data collecting and analysis method lay the foundation for a more definite data collection and analysis procedure to be carried out later in the process.

Descriptive: The following is how it is described: Increasing knowledge of contemporary issues is the goal of this project, which involves the collection of data. Descriptional studies are those in which the behavior of a sample population is described in great detail by the researchers. There is just one variable required in order to carry out the investigation. There are three primary objectives of descriptive research: to describe the findings, to explain them, and to verify the conclusions drawn from them. Several studies were conducted to evaluate whether or not top-level management leaders in the twenty-first century had the moral right to earn a large quantity of money from the company's earnings in one instance.

Explanatory: In order to assess the impact of specific changes in existing standard operating procedures on the organization, causal or explanatory research is carried out in this area. Experiments are the most often utilized technique of determining a solution. Consider the results of a study that was conducted to evaluate the effect of rebranding on customer loyalty.
